POPULARITY POLL/SOFTWARE TOP 20 by Richard Karsmakers
Since there really isn't much change in the 'best music
programmer' and 'best graphic artist' department, I thought it
suitable to quit those polls and from now on only continue with
the software top 15 (changed into a software top 20). If you get
your hands on the software that is present in this top 20, you
can safely assume you have the best entertainment software at
home that is available!
"Flightsimulator II" is still going down, although I suspect
that it will still be there next time (with the European scenery
disks coming out). "Bubble Bobble" stays on top, probably because
there are 100 levels and only few people have managed to get
there. I had already predicted that "Return to Genesis" would be
a winner, and I think it might be found on the first spot in the
following poll! Quite remarkable is the fact that nearly half of
all the entries are new ones, not present in the previous poll.
Even more remarkable is that two of the three highest new entries
are low-budget games: "Warhawk" and "Mission Genocide". Maybe
this development shows a growing interest of the general public
in cheap computer games. Though the more expensive games also do
quite well.
Some games do not deserve to be so low in the charts (like
"Obliterator", "Dungeon Master" and "Carrier Command"), but their
positions are probably due to their complexity and their
relatively high prices.
Also note the return of "Xenon" in the charts.
