THE VIRUS DESTRUCTION UTILITY VERSION 3.0GB by Richard Karsmakers

  As  you  might have  noticed,  there's  no  "Virus  Destruction 
Utility" update present on this ST NEWS disk. The main reason for 
that is that there was no space left to store a program that  was 
over 70 Kb in length.  The "VDU" has been fully reprogrammed now, 
and  can  now also recognize the link-virus I spoke about  in  ST 
NEWS Volume 3 Issue 1,  as well as the new bootsector virus  (see 
"The ST's Virus Part III", elsewhere in this issue).

  Because  the newest version involved quite  a  few  programming 
hours (almost making the appearance of this very issue of ST NEWS 
quite impossible!),  and also because an update service would  be 
too  difficult for a Public Domain offering,  I have  decided  to 
make versions 3.0 and higher commercial. That means that they can 
be  ordered  through me only,  and that they may  not  be  copied 
freely except for personal (backup) use.
 Because new viruses and other bootsector using programs keep  on 
popping  up,  I  do not consider an update service to be  a  mere 
luxuary.  This service assures you that you receive a letter when 
an update is launched, which you can then order at reduced price.

  Which  are  now  the features of  the  new  "Virus  Destruction 
Utility"?

 * It recognizes ALL known ST viruses (link-and bootsector)

   rather suspect them of being viruses

  All  registered  users will receive a note when  an  update  is 
published.  They  can order the update at the price specified  in 
the  'update amount' column.  When they do not order  an  update, 
they  will  get no update release notes anymore.  About  once  in 
every two months, an update can be expected.
