POP POLL by Richard Karsmakers
YEAH! We have seven new entries (some pretty brilliant stuff)
this time, one of which is the brand new numero uno this time;
the latter probably due to the fact that it has been a good three
months since the previous 'regular' popularity poll was published
in ST NEWS. Some of the golden oldies are still holding on
desperately (and successfully) to their positions ("Bubble
Bobble" and "Super Sprint"), and "Arkanoid II" is still high in
the charts.
Let's have a look at the newcomers. "Speedball" (see ST Software
News) is a brilliant new game from the Bitmap Brothers with some
great graphics and an original gameplay. "To be on Top" is a
German game by some great guys - with an even more original
gameplay! Music is what this game is all about (see the review in
this issue of ST NEWS). This one could, mark my words, become a
MEGA-HIT! "Baal" and "International Karate +" are also quite
brilliant (see elsewhere in this issue), "Nebulus" is simply
GREAT (see the previous issue of ST NEWS), and "Eliminator" is a
superb piece of programming craftsmanship.
"Super Hangon", the new number one, is probably the best motor
racing game conceivable on the ST. It's fast, graphically
brilliant.....I'm running out of synonyms here. Anyway, "Super
Hangon" was also reviewed in the previous issue of ST NEWS.
Further, "Starglider II" has gone up considerably, and "Elite"
has made considerable improvement as well. But nobody was
surprised by that.
