             BACK ISSUES OF ST NEWS - WHAT'S IN THEM
 (Also including the last definitive ST NEWS compatibility list)

 ST NEWS has an international network of around a dozen  official
international distributors as well as some sortof unofficial ones
(such as Floppyshop in Scotland,  ACN in the Netherlands,  and  a
few more).  The official distributors have their addresses listed
in the "Colophon" article, to be found elsewhere in this issue of
ST NEWS. These are the addresses to write to when you want to get
your hands on any of the back issues you might desire.
 Please  note  that the official foreign  distributors  generally
require an SAE and a disk to send issues to you in.  If you  live
in   another  country  than  them,   please   supply   sufficient
International Reply Coupons - NO stamps!
 If in doubt,  you can always order ST NEWS issues by sending SAE
+ IRCs to the ST NEWS correspondence address.  A donation now and
again,  of course,  would be really welcome. Do note that this is
the final issue.

 If  you want to get in touch with more ST NEWS,  you can have  a
look at the list of back-issues below.  Only to die-hard ST  NEWS
fans  may  it be advisable to get any of  the  pre-Undead  issues
(i.e. the ones before the Final Compendium). The later issues are
definitely more worth while.

 Available as a 326 Kb ZIP file.  These are plain word  processor
document  files and will thus work on any TOS version as long  as
you have "1st Word",  "1st Word Plus" version 3.20TT or lower, or
a decently compatible word processor.
 Volume 1 Compendium
 The best of Volume 1.  Available as a 159 Kb ZIP file.  Works on
TOS 1.00 / 1.06, pageviewer bombs on 4.0x.

 Final Compendium
 The  best of all issues from Volume 1 Issue 1 through  Volume  5
Issue 1.  Works on ST, MEGA ST and STE. Not confirmed on MEGA STE
and  TT.  Does not work on the Falcon.  Available on two  regular
disks or 1 High Density disk containing a 1.2 Mb ZIP file.
 All interesting things we ever did in all previous  issues:  The
hottest  adventure  solutions (all Magnetic  Scrolls  ones),  all
real-time  articles,  the best reviews and the hottest  features.
And more (of course).
 Volume 5 Issue 2
 Available as 560 Kb ZIP file. Works on ST,  MEGA ST and STE. Not
confirmed on MEGA STE and TT. Does not work on the Falcon.
 The first 'undead' issue - everybody's fave (ahem) mag alive and
kicking  again!  Of course it features the  usual  things,  among
which a large amount of hot and rather nice reviews.  Further, it
featured  the 'Awards of the Eighties' and the latest version  of
the  drawing  program "NEOChrome  Master".  The  PROGRAMS  folder
contains a small patch that can be run in order to make Volume  3
Issue 6 through Volume 4 Issue 1 work on the STE.  It won't  work
with Volume 2 Issue 8 through Volume 3 Issue 5, though, I'm sorry
to say...

 Entirely dedicated to the ST NEWS International Christmas Coding
Convention held in 1990.  Extensive real-time articles,  about  a
dozen 3.5 Kb demo screens (some with sources) and more.

 The  'lustrum issue'.  Featuring the solution  to  "Wonderland",
reviews  of  "Llamatron",  "Gods",  "Lemmings",  part  I  of  the
Plantiac  Pilgrimage,  a  new version of the best packer  in  the
world ("Pack Ice"),  a history of ST NEWS,  the solutions to  all
hidden articles ever done in our mag (thus far) and loads more.

 Volume 7 Issue 1
 Available as 745 Kb ZIP file. Works on ST, MEGA ST and STE. Not
confirmed on MEGA STE and TT. Does not work on the Falcon.
 A  quantity-record  issue (almost 1300  Kb  of  articles!).  Its
contents   features  e.g.   the  "Terminator  II"  film   script,
explanation  of  sync  scrolling,  reviews  of  "Magic  Pockets",
"Shadow of the Beast II",  Psygnosis' "Barbarian  II",  "Lemmings
II",  "Lethal XCess",  "Revenge of the Mutant Camels" and "Armour
Geddon",  some  hot solutions and the conclusion to the  ST  NEWS
Plantiac Pilgrimage.  It also features a record amount of  hidden
articles!

 Another fairly major issue:  About 1200 Kb of articles. Features
e.g.  the full shareware game "Revenge of the Mutant Camels", the
penultimate   disk   magazine   roundup,    the   biggest   cheat
encyclopaedia  ever,  reviews  of  the  ST  Book  laptop  ST  and
"Protext"  and  "Amberstar",  loads  of fiction  and  six  hidden
articles.
 Volume 7 Issue 3
 Works on ST,  MEGA ST, STE and Falcon. Not confirmed on MEGA STE
and  TT.  The  music needs to be switched off in the  case  of  a
Falcon, though.
 Plenty   of  articles  again,   plus  a  collection  of   highly
interesting programs (e.g. a fine collection of depackers, plus a
fantastic little shareware game called "Mudpies",  by Microdeal).
Articles include a lot of fiction,  including more Tavern Novels,
Gard's  Geo  of  Lament and Cronos'  Rather  Zany  Adventures  in
Wonderland (rather long, too). Reviews include "Formula One Grand
Prix",  new  disk  magazines and some  books  (including  Douglas
Adams' "Mostly Harmless").  Loads more, of course, including four
hidden articles.

 Volume 8 Issue 1
 Works on ST,  MEGA ST, STE and Falcon. Not confirmed on MEGA STE
and  TT.  The  music needs to be switched off in the  case  of  a
Falcon, though.
 Totally bursting with articles and a lot of programs,  too.  The
last  issue  that Stefan was editor of.  The last of  the  Tavern
novels  ("The Jawman"),  loads more fiction,  an  interview  with
Bernd Steidl,  reviews of,  among other things, "XBoot III", some
screen  speeders,  "Sex" (the book by Madonna),  "Das Falcon  030
Buch" and "Ed-Hak".  The first part of a new assembler GEM coding
course,  and a lot more.  Programs include Sinister Developments'
rendition  of  "Centipede",  a  fantastic Big  Alec  music  demo,
picture utilities and...(indeed)...more.
 Volume 8 Issue 2
 Works on ST,  MEGA ST, STE and Falcon. Not confirmed on MEGA STE
and  TT.  The  music needs to be switched off in the  case  of  a
Falcon, though.
 Again offering about 1.2 Mb of articles, this issue has software
reviews of "Stone Age",  "Lemmings 2",  "The Chaos Engine",  some
books,  a  long  story by the name of "Lord of  the  Things",  an
encyclopaedia  for those of you interested in breaking  open  the
Polish ST scene,  travel reports (North America and Norway), lots
of  hot  info on Falcon 030/040 and Jaguar and a  lot  more.  The
programs  on  offer include "Hiscore  Terminal  Utility",  "Space
Invaders", "ST NCode", "Wowbagger" (latest version) and more.

 Volume 9 Issue 1
 Works on ST,  MEGA ST, STE, TT and Falcon. Not confirmed on MEGA
STE.  No need to start on ST compatible resolutions on the Falcon
anymore, and you can also play the music.
 The  first  issue to be made by me all on my  own...but  it  got
finished nonetheless. It is the first True Multi Media issue, and
is also the first to be totally Falcon compatible.  Anyway, apart
from  the  usual computer-related articles it had loads  of  film
reviews,  attention  to  books,  CD/demo/etc.  reviews  and  four
extremely interesting interviews with Chris Holland of  "Maggie",
Anathema,  My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost.  Software (p)reviews
include  "1st Word Plus 4",  "Kobold 2.5",  "Chroma  Studio  24",
"Zool",  "Frontier - Elite 2".  Further interesting bits are  the
first  ever  "Nature of the Beast" column in "ST  NEWS"  by  Jeff
Minter  and the usual adventure solutions.  The  PROGRAMS  folder
contains  the  "ST Zip" program required to  de-archive  any  ZIP
files you may have (such as the earlier ST NEWS issues).
 Volume 9 Issue 2
 Works on ST,  MEGA ST, STE, TT and Falcon. Not confirmed on MEGA
STE.
 Even  more interviews (Gwar,  Yngwie Malmsteen,  Ofir  Gal,  Dan
Wilga,  Obituary,  Napalm Death,  Anne McCaffrey, and more), more
fiction  (including  "Oh Yeah 3"),  lots  of  music/film/software
reviews,  totalling to over 1.5 Mb worth of text.  Also the first
part  of "Your Second GfA Basic Manual",  a D-Day  Memorial,  the
biggest ever Cheat Listing and the third incarnation of the  disk
magazine roundup.
 Volume 9 Issue 3
 Works on ST,  MEGA ST, STE, TT and Falcon. Not confirmed on MEGA
STE.
 Reviews  of  "Geneva",  "NeoDesk 4",  "Rainbow"  (art  program),
"ERGO!pro"  and  an  enormous lot of CDs and  a  regular  lot  of
concerts,  films and quite a few books (lots of Stephen King, Tom
Sharpe  and  some Philip K.  Dick).  The "Your Second  GfA  Basic
Manual"  continued,  Falcon  programming  tricks  by  Evil  Dead,
interviews  with Terry Pratchett,  Damien M.  Jones  and  various
bands (At The Gates, Altar and Orphaned Land among others). First
instalment of the new regular "Just a Box of Rain" column by John
Weller.  Programs on offer include "PAnTHer" and the "Grandson of
Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged" swearing accessory as well as
source material for various articles.

 Reviews of "Rainbow II Multimedia",  "Diamond Back 3",  "Diamond
Edge",  "Freedom",  "Llamazap";  interviews  with Dream  Theater,
Abaddon  of  Venom,  Septic  Flesh;  "Secrets of  Geneva"  by  Al
Fasoldt;   adventure   solutions  to  "Arthur,   the  Quest   for
Excalibur",  "Martian  Memorandum",  "Hugo II";  plenty  of  book
reviews, as well as some of films, videos and music carriers; the
first part of the premier novel "The Bloodless Coup"; programs on
the disk include "Geneticopoly" and the shoot-'em-up "Plutos".
 Volume 10 Issue 2
 Works on ST,  MEGA ST, STE, TT and Falcon. Not confirmed on MEGA
STE.
 Another upward movement,  with regard to quantity at least.  The
fourth "GfA Basic Course" instalment,  plenty of book reviews,  a
record  amount  of  CD/EP  reviews,  interviews  (Dave  "ex-STEN"
Mooney,  Jens  "ex-Malmsteen"  Johansson).  Another part  of  Roy
Stead's  "The Bloodless Coup" novel,  and two full short  stories
called  "Wild  Horses" and "The Seven Gates of Hell  -  Obviously
Influenced  by  the  Devil Too".  Program  on  the  disk  include
"Wowbagger"  (final  version  4.242,  command  line  programmable
version),  Microdeal/Michtron's  shareware  game  "Flipside"  and
"Cookie Monster" cookie jar analyser. Adventure solutions include
"Mask of the Sun" and "Plan 9 From Outer Space".

 Volume 11 Issue 1 & 2 (this one)
 Works on ST,  MEGA ST, STE, TT and Falcon. Not confirmed on MEGA
STE.

Remarks:

o    All  compatibility  tests  on  the  Falcon  or  TT,   unless
     otherwise specified, were performed in either high or medium
     resolution ST compatibility mode.
o    STE  incompatibilities  are usually caused  by  the  "please
     write-protect the ST NEWS disk" alert box,  on which it will
     lock.  A  patch  program exists for STE,  but for  the  same
     problem  on  the Falcon none exists so far.  The  STE  patch
     program may be found on ST NEWS Volume 5 Issue 2.
o    Bomb crashes appearing on the Falcon are usually due to  the
     music.  The  later ST NEWS issues (Volume 7 Issue 3  through
     Volume  8 Issue 2) can have the music turned off by  default
     via  the "SETUP" file.  Turn the music off on  a  compatible
     machine (ST or MEGA ST for example),  then save the  "SETUP"
     file  to disk ("Save Configuration").  It will then work  on
     the Falcon.
o    "ST  Zip",  the archive program you will need to be able  to
     de-archive the ZIP files, is to be found on ST NEWS Volume 9
     Issue 1.
o    The ZIP file versions of ST NEWS are only available directly
     from  the  correspondence  address.   These  are  no  longer
     available  as  disks,   with  the  exception  of  the  Final
     Compendium.
o    The  foreign  distributors  usually  only  have  the   Final
     Compendium and later issues (Volume 5 Issue 2 and up).  They
     don't have the ZIP file versions.
o    If you want selected ZIP files,  please state exactly  which
     ones  you  want  and make sure their  total  amount  doesn't
     exceed the available storage space on the disk you send.  If
     you don't have "ST Zip", get ST NEWS Volume 9 Issue 1 or ask
     for it when getting the ZIP files and calculate about 250 Kb
     of extra free space for this archive program package.
o    Principally you need to add 1 International Reply Coupon per
     disk you send,  with the first disk needing 2.  If you  live
     outside Europe, you'll have to add 1 IRC per 2 disks extra.
o    Some  people  seem  not to  know  what  International  Reply
     Coupons are,  nor where you can get them.  Well, IRCs can be
     obtained from your post office.  They are small green pieces
     of  paper with a text on them in  French,  German,  English,
     Arab,   Chinese  (or  Japanese),  Spanish  and  Russian  (or
     Greek?).  When you send them to us we can exchange them  for
     Dutch stamps - as we can't do anything with Swahili (or even
     English) stamps!
o    ST NEWS is reported to work fine on the PC Atari ST emulator
     ("GEMulator")  and "MagicMac" but be sure,  similar to  some
     issues on the Falcon, that the music doesn't play!
o    ST  NEWS  works  fine on the C-Lab Falcon MK  I  and  MK  II
     whenever Falcon compatibility is mentioned.
