LATEST MUSIC NEWS
by Richard Karsmakers
If you want to find some really hot (and not) news about the
rather heavy side of the music biz', this might be the column to
find what you needed to know.
Actually, it probably serves no purpose other than supplying
information to people who have the almost exact same musical
taste as I, for I never include info on bands that I find
uninteresting anyway.
So just check it out for yourself. Some of the news is
guarenteed to be so hot it's not even known by the regular music
press. Some other items are probably boring and old, included
only for those who don't have any subscriptions to real music
magazines at all, and who never buy separate issues or read them
at the news stands.
Interesting news items taken from the Internet regarding guitar
virtuoso Jason Becker:
"Jason's current condition finds him physically unable to write
so although he reads everyone's letters, he is unable to made
individual replies. Answers to the most frequently asked
questions are:
Jason can still speak, but swallowing and breathing is
becoming increasingly difficult. He needs help with every
aspect of daily living. Obviously, he can no longer play
guitar, but he's working on setting up the computer system
so it'd be easier to him to write music.
Jason had excellent results sporadically with the chelation
treatments. However, none of the improvements were lasting.
I still get treatments occassionally because there is still
some mercury lingering in his system and this treatment is
supposed to remove the mercury from his body. There may be a
connection between mental toxicity and ALS (Lou Gehrig's
disease, which is the cause of Jason's illness for the past
6 years).
Jason's long-awaited album "Perspective" was released in
Japan in Sep 1995. He is planning to release it in Europe
this year and in the U.S. in January. Since record labels
are unwilling to distribute "Perspective" (due to his
inability to tour and promote the album) Jason is releasing
it on his own label. Below is the detailed order
information:
Item Price
'Perspective' (CD only) $15.00
'Perspective' video sampler $15.00
(10 minutes - VHS only) (and probably NTSC)
Jason Becker t-shirt $15.00
(large/extra large)
California residents add 7.25% sales tax
8.25% in Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties)
Shipping & handling $5.00 plus $1.00 for each extra item.
Make check or money order payable to Jason Becker Music.
Send order to Jason Becker Music, P.O. Box 5109, Richmond,
CA 94805. Orders take 4-6 weeks to arrive.
Make sure to add $5.00 if you order from outside the USA.
If you are ordering by credit card, the following info is
required: Card used (Master Card or Visa), Card #,
Expiration date, and Signature.
Due to the limited distribution "Perspective" will get, I
encourage fans of good music to order a copy and send him words
of encouragement. When Jason was diagnosed with ALS in 1989,
doctors said he had no more than five years to live. It is now
1996 and Jason's passion for his music has helped him sustain his
life. I think he is a very good example of a dedicated musician
and if you haven't heard his music, you owe yourself to check him
out."
A review of this album is included in this issue of ST NEWS.

Anathema and My Dying Bride are both in the studio again,
recording. They will be releasing their new albums in September

"Grace Unhearing", "A Kiss to Remember", "All Swept Away", "For
You", "It will Come", "Here in the Throat" and "For My Fallen
Angel". There will be a digipak version with bonus track, as well
as a Japanese edition with another bonus track. The Anathema
album will be called "Eternal".

Rumours persist that Van Halen, due to fights involving new
tracks on a "best of" album that would feature departed singer
David Lee Roth, has split with singer Sammy Hagar. And, indeed,
David Lee Roth seems to be back with the band.

Relatively unknown guitar hero Rob Johnson, who debuted some
time ago with a self-titled album, recently released the

There's interesting news from Holy Records. For starters they
will soon release the new Orphaned Land album, "El Norra Alila"
(August 17th) and a 100% non-album track sampler CD called "The
Holy Bible" (September 2nd). Promo reviews can be found elsewhere
in this issue of ST NEWS.
September will also see the release of the new Serenity album,
called "Breathing Demons"; October/November will see the release
of Tristitia's second album, "Signs of Judgement". In December,
albums will be released by Septic Flesh ("Ophedean Wheel") and
Yearning (Holy's latest signing). In spring of 1997, albums by On
Thorns I Lay and Misanthrope may be expected.
The Holy Records contact address, by the way, has changed. It is
now BP 59, F-77260, La Ferté Sous Jouarre, France.
